1.1 - A New Beginning

Lucas Knight stepped off the train platform and looked at the small piece of paper clutched in his hand.  The small envelope contained everything that Lucas knew to be true of himself.  It was the copy of a mortgage deed and a few dollars - this was all he had after leaving the hospital following 'the accident'.

The accident.  Lucas could not remember, but from what was pieced together it seemed like it was best left forgotten.  His entire family did not survive and so Lucas Knight was now starting a new life - with nothing more than an unknown house in an unknown city.

The house was in pretty good condition and was located in the center of the seemingly quiet and peaceful town of Moonlight Falls.  Still, Lucas felt driven to explore and hope that something in this town might help trigger memories from his former life.

The creaky bicycle that came with the house would have to serve as transportation for now.  With no money for a real car and no prospects for employment, Lucas knew he might have to be sacrificing in many areas of life for awhile.

The local school had a very strong tie to sports and Lucas discovered that he was a natural at athletics.  He worked hard during the fitness class and discovered that his own instincts seemed to get him much better results.

Eyeing an open court in the common area, Lucas Knight put on quite a show with some incredible dunking skills.  His natural abilities were quite impressive - however, there was no one around to witness this truth.

Realizing a peace that came with working out, he pushed himself to the very limits of his endurance.  Perhaps this was his passion from his earlier life making itself known now.  Whatever the reason, it made Lucas feel good - and alive!

Solitude began to close in on Lucas and he ventured to the town center.  A woman with wings approached and began to pursue him romantically.  Lucas liked the flirting.  He responded  as well until he found out that his new fairy friend was most definitely not single.

Not long after, another woman took an interest in Lucas.  The two enjoyed an afternoon picnic in the park and even began to flirt uncontrollably - until her husband arrived with a very hostile attitude towards them both.

Lucas started a conversation that night with a very nice but noticeably older lady at the local dance club.  His batting average in romance was not good, but he enjoyed the company and danced the night away.  Still, there was a longing for something more - something meaningful.  He could only hope that he would be able to find it in this town.

After a quick breakfast the next morning, Lucas realized a very troubling fact.  He was broke!  No job - no savings.  He wondered how he would be able to pay the fast approaching bills.  And then he remembered something from a conversation he had with a bartender at the club.  It would have to do, even if it meant risking what little he had.

Lucas headed out to the new casino that had just opened in town.  With barely over $300 to his name, he bet it all in the hopes of keeping himself afloat.  Luck was on his side and he managed to pull in more than $3000 that afternoon!  This would be more than enough to keep the bills at bay - for now!

Later that night, he sat alone at the local diner, pondering what he would do with his life.  He had no skills and no interests besides athletics to guide him. Perhaps fate would step in and guide him towards his future.  The only thing he did know, was that he did not want to be alone.  A strange feeling stirred when he saw families walk into the diner - he knew that he too was meant to belong to a family of his own.

As he stepped out of the diner, he noticed a strange telephone box and innocently stepped inside.  He ran his fingers across the phone and dialed randomly.  In a flash, the booth came to life and Lucas felt the tingling of imaginary needles pricking his body.  His last image was of a strange and brilliant bright light and the sudden rush of air that seemed to make breathing impossible.  And then, everything went black.
