1.7 - Life Changes

With all the chaos of twin babies at home, Lucas and Haley were in need of some adult-only time.  Lucas thought it was time that Haley test her luck at gambling and took her to the casino.

There may not have been as much luck with the machines, but that didn't stop the two from making their own brand of luck instead!

Lucas did want to bring up the subject of children - specifically, more children.  He hoped that Haley wanted to have a large family just as much as he did.

Haley's response was more than enough to prove that the two of them had the same ideas of family.  She just prayed that it wouldn't be right away!

Lucas turned his attention to Shane and starting teaching his son about the basics.  He had to keep reminding himself that it won't take that long until Shane gets the hang of this!

Meanwhile, Haley endured the same ordeal with Tyler.  She wondered how Lucas had such patience with this.  It was definitely not as easy as the book made it out to be!

Having bonded with Shane, Lucas wanted to see his son take his first steps.  The two practiced tirelessly until Shane was able to walk with only slightly wobbly feet!

Lucas was overjoyed, and like all parents, he just knew his boy was gifted!  No one learns to walk as fast as my Shane.

Unless of course, his name happens to be Tyler.  Haley watched patiently as Tyler picked up the art of walking in no time!

Shane found time to play with his favorite toy - he would sing and play for hours with it.  Sometimes, he even imagined that it would sing and talk back!

Lucas started talking with Tyler and developed a sense of trust with his second son.  They even began to learn to communicate together in a way all of their own.

Haley, however, soon learned that Shane had picked up her gift of gab and the two spent hours together chatting up a storm - mostly about stuffed toys!

Tirelessly, Haley worked at being the best mother she could be.  She even read the boys favorite book to them so many times that she could recite it from memory.

Lucas took every opportunity to talk to his boys and they hung on every word he said - even if most of it didn't make too much sense to either of them!

For their anniversary, Lucas installed a hot tub.  Too many wonderful memories had been made with the one not so long ago.  Now, they could recreate that weekend whenever they wanted in their own back yard.

And they did so quite often - always after the boys were tucked in safely and fast asleep.

Lucas' best friend Pip sent over a Gnubb set for the family.  Lucas did his best but basketball was really more his style!

Haley bought a stereo and she even got Lucas to learn to dance.  There wasn't much that he wouldn't do for her.

It also gave them something to do when the boys were awake and they couldn't get to the hot tub!

Not to mention something to keep them entertained indoors during those crazy full moons!

Another year rolled by and Shane was ready to become a big boy.  Daddy was proud but a little sad to see his boy growing up so quickly.

Shane, on the other hand, couldn't grow up fast enough.  Soon enough, he had broken past the terrible toddler years.

Now if he could only learn to be a bit more photogenic!  Maybe one day....

In between birthdays, Haley had that all-too-familiar feeling and found herself in a well-known position. She would stay quiet for now and not get Lucas' hopes up.

Tyler is less interested in growing up than his slightly older brother.  He desperately clings to his mother as the birthday cake looms in front of him.  Lucas gets into the spirit and a dazed Shane tries to make sense of Mom's latest "masterpiece".

Tyler transitioned quickly and almost got sick trying to watch the sparkles.  He knew there was a reason to not like birthdays!

"Mom...?" asked Tyler with trepidation.
Haley knew in an instant how to respond. "Don't worry - I have scissors and I know how to use them.  That ponytail will be a bad memory.", she replied.

Cake slices bigger than your face - Tyler now knew there was a reason to LOVE birthdays!

Running out of space, Haley decided to swap rooms with the boys.  They would have to share the bed for now until money was available.  Still, the boys didn't mind as long as they got to sleep in their cool car bed!

Finally being able to communicate, the twins started learning how to have fun and push every one's buttons.  They were having a blast becoming the best of friends, playing tag, pulling pranks....

And wearing out poor old dad in the process.  Lucas went to bed early that night wondering how anyone this young could actually feel this old.  You better get your rest because you haven't seen anything yet!
